But despite these warning signals, 2023 was able to surprise us again, for a strong variability of the climatic conditions that affected the cultivation starting from the winter and which continued until the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s summarize the situation with Roberto Nantiat the winemaker who, with Gianfranco Cordero, follows the works at Tenuta Montemagno, to understand the trend of 2023, with a focus on the harvest just terminated and on what the wines resulting from this harvest will be like.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"687\" height=\"1030\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.tenutamontemagno.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/raccolta_uva_23-687x1030.jpg\" alt=\"Vendemmia 2023\" class=\"wp-image-3618\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.tenutamontemagno.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/raccolta_uva_23-687x1030.jpg 687w, https:\/\/blog.tenutamontemagno.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/raccolta_uva_23-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blog.tenutamontemagno.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/raccolta_uva_23-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.tenutamontemagno.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/raccolta_uva_23-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.tenutamontemagno.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/raccolta_uva_23-1365x2048.jpg 1365w, https:\/\/blog.tenutamontemagno.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/raccolta_uva_23-1000x1500.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/blog.tenutamontemagno.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/raccolta_uva_23-470x705.jpg 470w, https:\/\/blog.tenutamontemagno.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/raccolta_uva_23-scaled.jpg 1707w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 687px) 100vw, 687px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a particular vintage\u201d Roberto says \u201cbut we could already understand it from how spring and summer were; from an extreme period of drought we moved to a semi-resolution during the months of June and early July, to return to another situation of stress due to the high temperatures reached from the beginning to mid-August\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>During this period, for about two weeks, the thermometer marked 40\u00b0\/45\u00b0 C with average night-time values always above 30\u00b0 C. The effect on the plants was the blocking of photosynthesis and therefore the ripening of bunches. So on August 22nd, ahead of the traditional calendar, the Sauvignon harvest began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe decided to race against time to prevent these grapes, which are very sensitive to climatic conditions, from burning. Syrah vinification shows a particularly intense colour, an interesting structure and, therefore, a good concentration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the month of September the harvest continued with the Timorasso, which reached perfect ripeness thanks to the heavy rains at the end of August, used for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmwines.it\/en\/solis-vis\">S<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmwines.it\/en\/solis-vis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">olis Vis<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmwines.it\/en\/nymphae\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nymphae<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNow (mid-September, ed.), we are harvesting the Barbera grapes, destined for the vinification of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmwines.it\/en\/austerum\">Austeru<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmwines.it\/en\/austerum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">m<\/a> reds and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmwines.it\/en\/mysterium\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mysterium<\/a>, that are offering the same quality as always with greater softness and freshness.
